Nicaragua Tour 2009, November 7- November 14
Paracrane will be doing another trip to Nicaragua this fall from November 7 to November 14. We’ll be there at the best time to paraglide in Nicaragua, after the rainy season, but before the winds pick up in December. The last 2 years we’ve had a great trip, flew Laguna de Apoyo and Volcan Mombacho, visited the UNESCO World Heritage city of Granada, ate great food and stayed in a beautiful inn overlooking the lake. Pilots bought hammocks from local crafts people, and admired beautiful handmade guitars for sale.
Nicaragua has great flying and wonderful potential. Only a hand full of paraglider pilots have ever flown Volcan Mombacho, but it has a great launch, easy access by 4X4 vehicle, 2500 foot vertical and lots of potential. The staff of the national park was so nice the first year, that they apologized that one day that conditions were not right to fly, and let us in the next day free! All through our trip the Nicaraguan people were super friendly and supportive of paragliding. Nicaragua is like Costa Rica 30 plus years ago. Tourism is a new industry for them, and they welcomed us. Paraglide Nicaragua
This is a paragliding adventure in a third world country. This trip is for pilots who are comfortable taking off in light wind or high wind , landing in small fields and flying cross country. Pilots will be required to fly with a GPS and a radio. If you chose to go XC there is always the possibility we can’t retrieve you, as we may lose radio contact, so you’ll be briefed on how to get a taxi or bus back to the main LZ. Last year we had an easy time hitching with friendly locals. There is also great swimming in the lake, lush jungle to explore in Mombacho National Park, exploring the markets in historic Granada or a hammock makers shop in Masaya. Food is great, well prepared and cheap. Cuban cigars and fine tequilla are available and cheap for those so inclined.
Nicaragua Paraglide Tour Details
Pilots will fly into Managua, Nicaragua where we will pick you up Saturday November 7th. We will stay about an hour away, in a beautiful small inn on the rim of the crater at Laguna de Apoyo, and near the historic city of Granada. Tour price is $1295 including double room, guiding and transport within the country.
Paraglide Costa Rica option
If you want to combine paragliding in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, I will be leading a trip in Costa Rica the week prior, so you are welcome to come with me for both weeks. We’ll fly Costa Rica for the first week, then head to Nicaragua for a week.
